John 5
What the apostles had witnessed was nothing short of all the promises of God, incarnated. The Word, the words of the prophets, had indeed become flesh. The apostle John writes his gospel in order to proclaim all that he had seen and heard. For, he had seen the miracles that the prophets had promised which would be only be performed by the Christ – the only begotten Son of God. The signs that He performed were a perfect match to what was foretold. Moreover, the words which He spoke were a perfect match to as well. This indeed was the One of whom Moses and the Prophets spoke. He was indeed the “Son of God…the King of Israel.” So, John wrote what his eyes saw, what his ears heard, and what his hands touched concerning the Word of Life so that all who hear may believe and in believing they would receive life in His name.
