Overview Of Nehemiah

Nehemiah was a Jewish man of great responsibility and influence. As cupbearer to King Artaxerxes I, he was to certify that none of the wine the king drank was poisoned. This position required tremendous trust, so the cupbearer often became a close advisor. Nehemiah heard that the walls of Jerusalem had not been rebuilt and received permission from the king to go and address the situation. He demonstrated tremendous leadership and organizational skills that enabled the wall to be finished in an incredible 52 days.
Nehemiah walks us through repentance, rebuilding, and, finally, the reformation of a country. Many of the principles that he employed to accomplish this tremendous task would be helpful for us today as we observe the condition of the church today. Many congregations are divided and in disarray, trying to make sense of what is happening in the world around them. God’s word will help us as “…We build from here!”
